July has been a month of traveling for us. Donna was able to go to Louisiana for a few days for the birth of granddaughter Izabella.
During her time away, I attended the Mexican National Baptist Convention which was held in the state of Morelos, south of Mexico City. This was my first experience at the convention, and it was, well…..different. If you like Baptist business meetings, then you would love Mexican ones! Our purpose was to try and strengthen our ties with the convention here in Mexico. There’s a lot of history and a lot of baggage between the groups, and we need to fix it. I hope that we built some bridges this year, but I fear that some internal issues with the CNBM really took center stage.
Last week, Donna and I attended our annual missionary meeting for Mexico. Most of our colleagues and leaders were there. We had a full week of worship, fellowship, and business. We attended workshops, and met with our leaders. As usual, there are some big changes coming in the IMB and we are gearing up for them. Seems like the only constant is change.
It’s good to be back in Hermosillo. The summer rains are in full force and everything has turned green. The city looks different, although it is struggling to keep up with drainage issues and with the rocks and sand that wash into the streets when it rains really hard. The humidity level has skyrocketed but the temperatures have dropped a little. Being accustomed to dry air, the moisture has been uncomfortable for everyone. But the rains will end in about a month and we’ll return to the dry, cloudless days.
Our work continues to develop here in Hermosillo. One of our church plants has embarked on a “40 Days of Purpose” campaign. I can’t say that the timing is great, as many people are taking vacations about now. But we’ll see how it goes. We are about to begin our prayerwalking efforts in the second work (Las Lomas), as soon as our team members get back from vacation.
Thanks for reading our news and thanks most of all for your prayers.
